Introduction
It’s been a long time since I produced a new piece of content for my blog.
To say the last two years have been challenging would be an understatement of biblical proportions.
Throwback to 2023
Everything was going fine, I was happy, had big dreams, and good money was coming in. It was Ramadan, and I was planning on scaling my small Google Ads consulting hustle into something big. An agency. The fire of youthful motivation was burning inside of me. I registered a company legally and started setting up a cold email (marketing/client acquisition) system. Cold email was the talk of the town back then. Every agency owner on Money Twitter/X was talking about how they were able to scale their agency to five figures and beyond using primarily cold email. I was pumped, registered the domains, and set everything up.
The Unexpected War (2023/04/15)
On 2023/04/15, the unexpected happened. I used to follow politics heavily during my teenage years, but not so much lately, so I didn’t know about the tensions in my country. Then, a war broke out.
Displacement and Family Separation
After the third day of hearing gunfire and having no electricity or water, we moved to a safer, habitable remote area in Al Jarizah state with our extended family. I have three brothers, a sister, and my father. My mother, may God bless her soul, had already passed.
One of my brothers was outside the country when it all began. My father, my youngest brother, and my sister eventually moved to Egypt ahead of us due to visa issues. We planned to reunite with them in Egypt after securing our own visas, but the process was too complicated. Instead, we ended up traveling through various Sudanese states. Gedarif, Port Sudan, Dongola, and more. And our plans changed frequently.
The effect of this war on me was profound. I went from smoking a few cigarettes a day to over two packs daily (I’ve since quit using Allen Carr’s book).
New Beginnings in the UAE (2023/09/20)
On 2023/09/20, I landed in the UAE. My brother stayed behind in Port Sudan, where he was working.
Since arriving, I’ve freelanced, searched for a job, received and rejected an offer, and attempted to restart my agency, which in the UAE is much easier thanks to online payment systems being available here, unlike in Sudan. A lot has happened since then.
Current Status and Future Outlook
I ended up not going through with starting the agency for various reasons. My two eldest brothers, both reunited with my family in Egypt.
Today, I’m still freelancing and without a 9-to-5.
I’m excited about what the future holds. I’m in a period of rediscovery. Seeking what truly matters to me and focusing on projects that fulfill me.
Conclusion
That’s all for this post.
Cheers.
